How it all started
Plivio’s journey started in the year 2016 when it’s creator – an design engineer from The Netherlands – searched for a tool that would allow the user to build various constructions and art models creating 3D decorations that are inspiring, authentic and challenging and that could serve as decoration (art lite) or can have a functional purpose.
The aim was to create a tool that would allow the user to discover all kinds of constructions just by building them while being able to enjoy and learn.
The smart construction set for adults
Except for a children’s set using plastic drinking straws, no construction set existed at the time, certainly no aesthetically designed weight bearing sets. In fact there were not sets that were meant for adults to be inspired to start building and being challenged to create, discover, challenge your imagination and explore your creativity while enjoying yourself. In a playful way.
The Art of Imagineering
We understood that there was a real need for an ‘Imagineering’ construction set for one or more persons, for modelling, puzzles, teambuilding and educational purposes. With the invention of Plivio, the aluminium tubes with connectors, an intriguing combination of imagination and basic engineering skills to construct spatial objects was created: A 3D design and DIY construction set for creative persons that enables you to create geometric, decorative, art, or even wacky spatial objects at home by yourself or together with friends and family.

A nice looking building set
The inventor of Plivio has a background in industrial engineering and a fascination for framework constructions. He wanted to create a building set that would always look nice in any interior, without looking like a "plastic toy". He therefore decided to use anodized aluminium tubes for the aesthetic design and elegant appearance. The problem however was the hard, smooth surface of the material which did not provide any grip for a connector.

The Tubes
It started with the tubes that are made of “food” grade anodized aluminium.
This means that, if needed, they can be cleaned in a dishwasher.
In this way the user can have an enduring and lasting joy of the construction set, changing designs and creating various constructions.

Imagineers
The first connector couplings that were created were in the form of little pivoting men, designed not only to be able to hold the tube ends, but that could also be clicked anywhere along a tube and to each other in many ways. The creation of a ball socket coupling meant they were also capable of rotating in all directions. In fact they were just like the fearless, hardworking steel workers who built the New York sky scrapers in the past. The smart connector was born!
Out of respect these couplings are named “Imagineers” as their job is to help the creator realise an idea through the construction process, and they do it without ever complaining!

Clips & Plugs
However, to be able to create even larger stable, static or even kinetic (rotatable) constructions, the Imagineers needed an additional set of tools, so the second step was to develop innovative connectors, ensuring that any type and any size of spatial construction can be built!
The newly developed set of connectors (the "clips & plugs") have the unique feature that they can be coupled to each other. It includes a unique flex-plug that can be combined with other flex-plugs in a circle, so to form one connector to connect multiple aluminium tubes together in a star form.
The set includes an extender plug that connects 2 tubes on an axis and an end-plug that can be connected to the flex-plugs. Besides that, there are also pin-clips, flex-clips, socket-clips, rack-plugs, etc. which are all connectable to each other.
For beginners and experienced artistic constructors
We are proud to present the range of Plivio Imagineering Sets that can bring joy and trigger creativity for both beginners and the more experienced.
The wooden boxes are designed such that they can be integrated into constructions as the Imagineers and clips can be clamped on it.
The Imagineering Set is in fact an eclectic mix of art, design, engineering and creativity, allowing you to build amazing objects that are surprising, even to the builder, although it’s the discovering of your own creativity during the building process which is the most fun and makes you feel good.
Every Imagineering construction will always look great, something you can proudly show to family and friends. It can even help you to make even more friends as the Plivio Imagineering Sets would of course be a very original gift!
